[...] John Barban breaks down the steroid debate with some tough love and very sound arguments. I agree with much of what is said apart but I would add that if I were competing in a competition in which steroids were technically illegal, then I would not feel that I had deserved my position if I used steroids to get there. If I won, then I would not feel that I had really won if I had been “assisted” in getting there. Just my opinion.
Chad,

Testosterone in moderation might be very beneficial to guys as they age. In men that are in their late 40's early 50's it might be worth getting testosterone levels checked. If they're measurably low it might be worth getting testosterone therapy to restore levels to that of a 20 year old again.

It's interesting for sure. There is some research to show that testosterone has mood elevating effects in guys and can be used as a treatment for depression.

Barban,
Would you not agree that steroids(testosterone or its derivatives) can actually be great for an individual...if taken in moderation. These hormones aid in protein synthesis, muscle recovery and cell repair. But, to achieve the effects you may only need 100-200mg week whereas the magazine dudes take 3000-4000mg a week. So obviously going crazy like these guys causes cardiac hypertrophy etc. All in moderation my friend. Let's not forget..you can eat your self to death or aspirin, in large dosages, is fatal.

1. This is so true and a message that needs to get out to people.

2. On the "body dysmorphia complex" thing. I noticed after I started travelling that this is (mostly) an American issue. People in Europe, Africa and Asia rarely give a thought to such things; as long as they're not too fat, it's good enough for them. If they're going to show status, they do it with things like money, dressing nicely, and having better manners than the next guy. Of course, I'm generalizing, but the point is that travel is an excellent remedy for this kind of complex.
